So, you’ve managed to bag yourself a date – excellent! Now begins the true dilemma: what to wear? That will of course depend on a number of factors, such as where you’re planning on going, what time of day the date will take place and what the weather is likely to be. Will the sun be smiling down on the pair of you or does it look like rain will be threatening to dampen your spirits? (If it’s the latter, take an umbrella so if your date forgot theirs, you can both snuggle up under the same one).
Ladies Love…
The smart and the stylish. But they don’t like to be outdone. Best to wear what you’d normally wear (you want to be comfortable after all and not force an image that isn’t ‘you’) but the smarter version of whatever that might be. Here are a few pointers:
Footwear
If you want to wear trainers make sure they’re not too scruffy. Shoes should be colour co-ordinated with your outfit. In fact, make sure all your items complement each other well, not just your socks and shoes. Fashion for Passion
Legwear
Smart jeans will do, darker colours are more flattering. Don’t go too baggy and not too tight either (you want to leave something to her imagination!). Don’t forget the belt.
Chestwear
T-shirts are a tricky area. While having something to talk about can be a great ice-breaker at the beginning of a date, having brand’s logo or name of a band she loathes shoved in her face throughout can be a deal breaker. Stick to abstract designs, block colours or go for an (ironed) shirt instead. Consider carefully whether to tuck the shirt in or out – go with whatever the occasion and your chosen outfit call for.
Men Marvel…
At little black dresses. This is a wardrobe item that has stood the test of time. It will also stand for you to put your own personalised twist on it.
Footwear
Stilettos for the ultimate sex kitten look. Pumps if you’re planning on doing lots of walking. Chunky boots for winter and for giving the outfit an overall more casual appearance.
Legwear
Dare to bare or wear nudes, stockings, or opaques. It is entirely up to your mood, where (and how well!) you hope your date will go.
Chestwear
If you’re concerned that the LBD will portray the dominatrix version of you, you can counterbalance with a cute cardi or shrug.
Underwear
This should be comfortable yet sexy, even if you’re not intending to show it off straight away. You will feel more confident with the knowledge that your undergarments have maximum oomph factor.
Note to both sexes:
If running ideas past friends, remember that those you usually turn to for relationship advice may not be the same that you want to turn to for fashion advice. Also, you may think aviators are the epitome of cool but sunglasses seriously hamper communication. Eyes are expressive and the rest of your body language will be hard to interpret if you conceal them. Leave the shades at home. Fashion for Passion
Of course, online dating, if this is the route you have chosen, doesn’t call for you to be appearance-conscious, or at least from the outset. This is great because it takes the pressure off both parties and there is more attention paid to what lies beneath the surface – and that which will keep you attracted to each other.
